Hampton University 'Forty under 40' Honoree
HAMPTON UNIVERSITY 'FORTY UNDER 40' HONOREE
The Hampton University Forty Under 40 Society was created to serve as a platform of recognition for young alumni who are excelling in their professional and personal ventures. The program is the Office of Alumni Affairs’ first initiative uniquely designed to identify and recognize the University’s most exceptional young alumni, as well as engage the overall young alumni base.
Gary Bushrod was selected as an honoree in the 2018 class, which is the third group of young alumni to be admitted since the creation of the program. Since graduating from Hampton University, Gary has not only achieved significant accomplishments in his career as a Learning & Development leader, he has mentored dozens of children during his tenure as Coach and Artistic Director of the Herndon High Step Team, being named two-time national champions and Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2013, respectively. In addition to this, he is the former Chair of Education for the Omicron Lambda Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Recently, he became the creator and curator of CatchGifUcan.com, a travel & lifestyle blog meant to inspire young professionals to see the world. In 2008, Gary served as a panelist, representing Hampton University at the annual White House Initiative on HBCUs conference. Serving as the Vice President of the Washington, DC chapter of the National Hampton Alumni Association, Gary presented on proposed solutions for engaging recent HBCU graduates in their local alumni programs.
The 2018 class of the Forty Under 40 Society was officially inducted on Friday, October 26, 2018 and presented to the greater alumni population during halftime of the Homecoming football game between Hampton and Virginia University of Lynchburg.
